Bengaluru: The Congress party leaked the caste census report selectively within the party and did not make it public for political purposes, Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar said.

Speaking to the media, Sudhakar said, “As the election draws near, Congress is trying to create controversy and mislead people with false allegations, lies and half-truths.”

He claimed that Rs 130 crore was spent on the Kantaraju Commission, which was formed during the reign of Congress to draft a caste census report.

“During the Congress government, the Kantaraju Commission was formed with a one-point agenda to write a caste census report. A whopping Rs 130 crores of public money was spent on this exercise. However, the report was never made public and was leaked only within Congress, for political purposes. Shouldn’t congressional leaders be held accountable? alleged Sudhakar.

Karnataka’s health minister has further said that his government will take legal action against NGOs if any terms and conditions are breached during their participation in the upcoming Bengaluru civic polls.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections are due to be held in December.

“Municipal corporations have always engaged NGOs through electoral commissions for routine electoral work. All these activities are carried out in accordance with the law. If any terms and conditions are violated, our government will take legal action against these NGOs,” Sudhakar said.

On the Congress allegation that the BJP government engaged in election data theft under the watch of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, ahead of the upcoming BBMP polls, “the Chief Minister himself clarified the matter “.

“It has become a habit for Congress to call for the resignation of the CM over baseless allegations. Imagine how many Congress leaders would have resigned for leaking and misusing the official caste census report,” Sudhakar added.

He said Congress was “bankrupt” in terms of issues for debate as the state made progress in all areas under the BJP government.
“Congress needs to debate constructive issues. By raising such stupid and illogical questions, they lose their credibility even more,” Sudhakar added.
