The government of Uttarakhand has said that the rapid increase in population is causing demographic changes in parts of the state, leading to the migration of several communities from these places in addition to posing a threat to community peace.

Expressing concern over the development in an official statement here on September 25, the government ordered the state DGP, all DMs and SSPs to take precautionary measures to resolve the issue.

He asked officials to form committees in all districts that will offer suggestions to the administration to resolve the issue.

In addition, peace committees should also be set up and their meetings held from time to time to review the situation, the statement said.

Such areas in all districts should be identified and action should be taken against the anti-social elements residing there, he said.

A list of people with a criminal record coming from outside the state and living in these areas should also be drawn up after verification of their place of original residence, the statement said.

District Magistrates (DMs) have been asked to monitor illegal land transactions in these areas and ensure that people do not sell their land out of fear or pressure.

Strict measures should be taken against people of foreign origin who have obtained false identity cards or voter cards.

The files of these people should be prepared and action taken against them in accordance with legal provisions, the statement said.

The list of directions follows a letter recently written by BJP leader Ajendra Ajay to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in which he claimed that residents of a particular community were not only building their places of worship, but also buying houses. loose land in parts of the state causing an exodus of the original inhabitants.

The Home Office was asked to look into the matter after the BJP chief wrote to the chief minister.
