YORK COUNTY, SC (CN2 NEWS) – As York County continues to grow, sadly, leaders of nonprofits, who work with those who have no place to sleep at night, say that the homeless population continues to grow.
Pilgrims’ Inn in Rock Hill says it needs help preparing for its next one-time count.
Rock Hill’s executive director for Pilgrims Inn, Jason Davenport, says the count is a way for them to get an idea of the number of homeless people in the community. Volunteers and those from Pilgrims Inn and the Catawba Area Coalition for the Homeless plan to go out and find where homeless men, women and children are sleeping the night of Wednesday, February 23. They hope that by finding these people, they can do their best to meet their needs.
While they are away, Davenport says they will give each person a bag of food, toiletries, blankets, scarves and more to meet their immediate needs. They plan to pack 250 bags
Below is a list of the necessary items. You can drop off these donations at the Pilgrims Inn Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. They also need volunteers for the count.
– Small bottles of shampoo and soap
– Small toothpaste
– Hats, gloves, scarves
– Individually wrapped snacks
