JI wants new constituencies based on accurate census ahead of LG polls

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) branch in Karachi demanded that the government hold local elections after establishing new constituencies based on an accurate new census.

JI Karachi Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman made the request during the party’s Eid event at the Idara Noor-e-Haq, the party headquarters in Karachi, on the first day of Eidul Fitr.

The party’s central, provincial and municipal leaders including Asadullah Bhutto, Rashid Naseem, Dr. Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Usama Razi, Ishaq Khan and others attended the event.

Rehman said JI would soon announce the next phase of its Huqooq-e-Karachi Tehreek (Karachi Rights Movement) and right after Eid a mass contact campaign would be launched to mobilize the city’s residents for their rights.

Unfortunately, no regime in power paid attention to the burning problems of the megalopolis which turned out to be the country’s economic nerve, he said. Over the past 30 years, the people of Karachi have been victims of policies of discrimination and prejudice, he added.

“Even, MPs and MPAs of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf never raised their voice on any Karachi issue but always made anti-Karachi decisions,” he remarked. “But now the city of 35 million people of Karachi is returning to its original state and showing its support for JI.”

The head of JI City said the party has always played an important role, even more than its mandate, for the betterment of the city and will continue to do so.

He was of the opinion that the regime in place at the Center was also following in the footsteps of previous governments and had continued the misguided policy of continuing the program of the International Monetary Fund. “As a result, another floodgate of inflation is about to open, bringing another wave of inflation to the lower and middle classes of society,” he said.

Speaking about K-Electric (KE), Rehman said the private power company has not spared Karachiis from load shedding even on the occasion of Eidul Fitr. He added that the townspeople demanded that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif cancel KE’s license and carry out a forensic audit of its accounts.
