Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Monday that there would be consensus among all political parties in the state on the caste census and that the steps for carrying it out will be defined.
“We are of the opinion that the caste census should be carried out across India. Also earlier, a 10-party delegation met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lobby for a caste census. In a few days, all the parties in Bihar will endeavor to carry out a caste census in the context of the state. I hope there will be a consensus among all parties, “Kumar said.
While referring to a NITI Aayog study “Best Practices in District Hospital Performance” on the number of beds per lakh of inhabitants – according to which Bihar only has six beds for 1 lakh of inhabitants. Mr Kumar said the richest states in the country cannot be compared to the poorest states. “Is it correct to compare Maharashtra to Bihar? Maharashtra is the richest state in the country while Bihar is the poorest,” he said.
Mr. Kumar added, “The NITI Aayog should conduct a study based on the financial situation of states. There should be different studies for poor states and rich states. The assessment of NITI Aayog is incorrect. Whenever there is an upcoming meeting with NITI Aayog, I will raise this issue with them. “
